⚡💻 Dell PA‑9 20V 90W Laptop Charger

(20V 4.5A AC Adapter • 90W • Rectangular 3‑Hole Connector • Backward‑Compatible with PA‑6 70W)

This AC adapter delivers 90W of regulated DC power to Dell laptops using the proprietary rectangular 3‑hole connector. Known as the PA‑9, it was Dell’s high‑power supply for Latitude, Inspiron, and Precision models. The lower‑wattage PA‑6 (20V 3.5A, 70W) used the same connector and works with the same laptops, though with reduced headroom.

  • 🔋 Output: Regulated 20V DC, 70W (PA‑6) or 90W (PA‑9)
  • 🔌 Proprietary rectangular 3‑hole connector
  • 🔁 PA‑9 is backward‑compatible with PA‑6 laptops; PA‑6 may underpower PA‑9‑class systems

⚠️ Things to Watch Out For

  • 📉 Using PA‑6 on laptops that expect PA‑9 may cause charging errors or throttling
  • 🔌 Connector is unique — not interchangeable with Dell’s later 7.4 mm smart‑pin barrels
  • 🧯 Avoid third‑party clones with poor fit — may cause loose contact or overheating
  • 🌀 Excess heat or frayed cables can cause intermittent charging
  • 🧪 Always confirm laptop’s underside label (20V, 70W/90W) before swapping adapters

🛠️ Quick Tips for Beginners

  • 🧭 Check underside of laptop for voltage and wattage requirements
  • 🔌 Use PA‑9 when possible — it covers all PA‑6 models with extra headroom
  • 🧪 If laptop won’t charge, inspect 3‑hole connector for bent contacts
  • 🧯 Label adapters clearly to avoid mix‑ups with Dell’s later round‑barrel chargers
  • 🧵 Keep one in your collection for Latitude C‑series and Inspiron 8000‑series restorations
